ENFIELD, CT — A gift arranged many years ago by a former Enfield resident is expected to provide the town with about $216,500 to help people in need.
The money comes from a trust established through the will of Antonio Gannuscio, according to documents presented to the Town Council.
Gannuscio left half his assets to his son, Anthony. The other half was placed in a trust managed by Bank of America.
Under the terms of the trust, the money was to be divided after Anthony died. Half would go to Anthony's wife, Ann, while the other half would go to Enfield as an endowment "for the benefit of the poor" in town.
Anthony Gannuscio died Jan. 26, 2024. In July 2025, a probate judge ordered the trust divided according to those instructions.
The trust held approximately $433,000 as of March 3, putting Enfield's expected share at about $216,500.
Bank of America sent the town paperwork that must be completed before the money can be released. The Town Council was asked Monday to authorize the town manager, acting town manager or another designee to sign those documents.
The Town Attorney's Office reviewed the agreement and recommended its approval. Town officials said accepting the money would have no effect on the municipal budget.
The council documents do not explain how residents would apply for assistance or which town department would oversee the endowment.
