ENFIELD, CT — A zoning lien against Yankee Casting had climbed to about $212,000 last month and continues to grow as violations at its Shaker Road property remain unresolved, according to town officials.
The update came during Tuesday's Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Agency meeting. Enfield's zoning enforcement officer said the lien totaled approximately $212,000 as of Aug. 20.
Town officials met with representatives of Yankee Casting, its attorneys and its bank in March 2025. By then, a zoning citation had already been issued and the company had been told that the violations and accumulated fines needed to be addressed.
One of the town's primary concerns is a large pile of sand and other material behind the foundry. Officials said equipment intended to reclaim metals and chemicals from materials used during the casting process was not operating, and the pile has continued to grow.
The company did not pay the zoning fines, prompting the town to record a lien against the property, officials said. The amount increases each day the violations remain unresolved.
The issue has been under review for several months. During a June 10 meeting, a Planning and Zoning Commission member asked town staff for an update on Yankee Casting, according to commission minutes.
No representative from Yankee Casting spoke during Tuesday's meeting, and the wetlands agency did not take a vote. The information was provided as part of a broader discussion of open enforcement matters.
Yankee Casting, located at 243 Shaker Road, was established in 1961. The company produces aluminum and magnesium castings for the aerospace, automotive, maritime and manufacturing industries.
