ENFIELD, CT — Enfield school officials have approved a nearly $1.44 million plan aimed at raising reading and math scores and getting more students to attend school regularly.
The Board of Education unanimously approved the district's 2026-27 Alliance District grant plan Sept. 22. The money comes from the state and must be used to improve student performance.
Under the district's plan, Enfield is aiming for a 15 percent increase in reading and math achievement from fall to spring.
The district also wants to reduce chronic absenteeism by 2.5 percentage points. A student is generally considered chronically absent after missing at least 10 percent of the school year.
One of the larger technology expenses is $71,288 for eduCLIMBER, a system that brings academic, attendance, behavior and student-intervention information into one platform. School employees will use the program to follow student progress and identify children who may need additional help.
The grant will also support staff, academic intervention programs, professional development and other work tied to the district's improvement goals.
Enfield is one of Connecticut's Alliance Districts, a designation given to school systems with some of the state's greatest academic needs. Districts receiving the funding must submit improvement plans showing how the money will be spent and how progress will be measured.
The plan will now be submitted to the Connecticut State Department of Education for review.
