The Connecticut State Police Bomb Squad and the FBI both responded to the incident.

ENFIELD, CT — U.S. Congressman Joe Courtney said that a "suspicious" envelope came to his campaign office in Enfield on Friday.

In a news release, Courtney wrote, "Earlier today, one of my staff members in my Enfield office opened a mailed envelope which contained a suspicious, unknown white substance and a malicious letter.

"My staff member is okay, and my office has notified United States Capitol Police. Thank you to the Enfield Police Department and emergency response as well as the Connecticut State Police Bomb Squad and the FBI for their prompt response and investigation.

"This is one of many suspicious packages across the country targeting Congressional offices and election officials. The clear malicious intent behind these mailings, whether to physically harm or cause alarm among dedicated Congressional staff, will not deter them from serving constituents who rely on their expertise and care for help," Courtney concluded.
