ENFIELD, CT — Residents can weigh in Monday night on a proposed 99-year lease of the Old Town Hall to the Enfield Historical Society.
The Town Council's public hearing is scheduled for 6:50 p.m. Oct. 19 in the Council Chambers at Town Hall, 820 Enfield St., according to the town's hearing announcement.
The official notice, dated Oct. 6, says the hearing will "allow public comment on the proposed lease of the Old Town Hall to the Enfield Historical Society, Inc."
The proposed agreement concerns the historic building at 1294 Enfield St., which houses the society's Old Town Hall Museum. Previous Patch coverage identified the proposed lease term as 99 years and outlined its referral to the Planning and Zoning Commission for review.

The building began serving the community Jan. 1, 1775, as a meetinghouse, according to the historical society's account of its history. It later became a town hall and also served as a fire station and community house.
After years of deterioration, the building was condemned in 1964. The historical society began a restoration in 1972, and the museum opened for regular business in 1981, the society says.
Today, the museum features three floors of exhibits, along with artifacts, photographs, documents and publicly accessible archives. Admission is free. The society lists regular hours as Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m., May through October, with other visits available by appointment.
Monday's lease hearing takes place at the current Town Hall, 820 Enfield St., rather than at the museum.
