Question 1 — School construction: Voters will decide whether to approve a $511 million appropriation for new Hazardville Memorial, Prudence Crandall, Parkman and Barnard elementary schools and conversion of Eli Whitney Elementary into Eagle Academy Therapeutic Day School. The question authorizes up to $89 million in town bonds or notes, with the balance from grants and other available funds.
The town clerk's explanatory text describes the state reimbursement as an estimate of about 83 percent. That estimate is the town's stated expectation, rather than a guarantee made by this guide. Patch previously examined the elementary school construction plan.
Question 2 — Town charter: Voters will decide whether to approve the revisions recommended by the Charter Revision Commission and approved by the Town Council June 23. The explanatory text covers changes involving elected-office vacancies, council procedures, town manager qualifications and financial rules. Approval would make the revisions effective Dec. 4. Each question has a separate yes-or-no vote.
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Vote at the location assigned to your address.
