ENFIELD, CT — Enfield will honor veterans with a parade Sunday, Nov. 8, ahead of Veterans Day closures and changes to trash, recycling and yard waste collection the following week.
The parade starts at 1 p.m. at Enfield Street School, 1318 Enfield St., and heads north to the Town Green for a wreath ceremony and military gun salute, according to the town's veterans events announcement.
"Everyone is invited to wave their US Flags along the parade route," the announcement says.
Under the Enfield Police Department's traffic advisory, Route 5 will close between Post Office Road and South Road at noon. At 12:45 p.m., the closure will extend from Post Office Road to Alden Avenue and remain in place until the parade ends.
Officers will direct traffic around the closures. Residents west of Route 5 along the parade route can use Alden Avenue or eastbound Route 190 for access, police said.
If bad weather intervenes, the wreath ceremony will take place at Enfield High School, according to the town.
Town Hall offices will observe Veterans Day on Wednesday, Nov. 11, under the town's 2026 municipal holiday schedule. The Central Library and Pearl Street branch also list Nov. 11 as a holiday closing.
