Behind the Counter: A Salon
This business feature debuts on Enfield Patch with a conversation with Andrea Penley Strouth.

A Salon is a full service salon that offers a full range of services for both women and men. A Salon strives to be the forerunner on the leading edge of today’s salon industry by providing its clients and community with consistency, creativity, and vision.
The vision for A Salon has always been to create a salon with a warm and friendly atmosphere and clientele who reflect the diversity of an ever changing world. Their fully licensed stylists welcome you to be pampered while enjoying a touch-up or a complete transformation.
Patch asked A Salon owner Andrea Penley Strouth to tell us some more about her business, and here is what she had to say:
Patch: When did your business open, and what is your role with the company?
Strouth: A Salon was opened on December 6, 2010. I am the sole proprietor; other stylists in the salon are Mary Tennis and Danielle Theberge. I have been doing hair for over 12 years now. We are a small intimate salon with a family friendly feel.
Strouth: We do everything when it comes to hair. Please visit our Facebook page where we are always running the most current promotions and have samples of our work. To get a full option of our service, I would visit www.asalonenfieldct.com. But here is a quick rundown: Haircuts for women, men, and children; color experts always on staff; highlights, sets, perms, facial waxing. We are a Certified Redken salon, we offer Ombre/ Balayage, feather extensions, and tinsel, and are certified in Keartin treatments. Our retail is Redken, Bed Head, and Aquage. Walk-ins are always welcomed.
Patch: Why did you decide to open in Enfield, and what made you interested in your field?
Strouth: I have lived most of my life in Enfield. I started my career in Enfield and have been doing hair for over 12 years. I really love the town feel and the people are fantastic. I believe Enfield has a lot to offer a woman business owner. Growing up, I have always had a feel for hair. Even before I had my license, I always wanted to style my sister and friends hair. It was a a natural fit for me to move into this direction. I love the entire atmosphere of hair, with the creativity and fashion behind it. There is no day that is like the one before. You really feel like the clients are part of your family because I get to know each of them so personally. I feel very fortunate that I get up everyday and love what I do.
Patch: Do you have a business mantra you live by?
Strouth: A Salon passionately works together with each client to enhance and maintain his/her personal and unique sense of self, style, and inspiration.
Patch: Can you tell us about your business background? What did you do before you opened your business? Have you owned other businesses in the past? Any notable awards?
Strouth: This is the first business I have ever owned. So it has been a great adventure to learn all theaspects of owning and managing my own business. Before I opened up my salon, I worked at other salons in town. It was a great help because that is where I really turned my craft from a beginner to a professional. I learned a lot from my previous employers. But ever since I could, I have been doing hair. That has been my passion. A Salon has won Best Salon in Enfield/Somers by Enfield Patch, and was voted #1 Salon by North Central News.
Patch: Finish this sentence. When I'm not working I'm...
Strouth: When I am not at work, I love relaxing and hanging out with my husband Greg and our dog Tyson. I am like most girls, I love to shop whenever I have free time.
