ENFIELD, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire. More great feats will be noted in the coming weeks.

Castleton University, Castleton VT

  • Castleton nursing student Ruthie Guhne of Enfield recently joined more than 50 other nursing students who participated in the annual Arnold P. Gold Foundation White Coat Ceremony. The White Coat Ceremony was designed in 1993 by The Arnold P. Gold Foundation as a way to welcome new students into the medical profession and to set clear expectations regarding their primary role as physicians. The annual tradition, which includes the cloaking and recitation of the medical oath by participants, emphasizes the importance of compassionate care as well as scientific proficiency in medicine and nursing.

  • - Cara Butcher of Enfield graduated with a MS in nursing - pediatric nurse practitioner from Regis College during the May 6, 2023 commencement exercises. Butcher was among more than 1,300 students who received degrees ranging from associate to doctoral levels.

Southern New Hampshire University, Manchester NH

  • It is with great pleasure that Southern New Hampshire University congratulates 10 students from Enfield on being named to the winter 2023 President's List. The winter terms run from January to May. They are Christopher White, Sean Gill, Emma Gould, Curtis Landry, Devin Ritchings, Christina Terra, Michael Wayner, Dylan Sherman, Olivia Conley and Kristina Mammano. Full-time undergraduate students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.700 and above for the reporting term are named to the President's List. Full-time status is achieved by earning 12 credits over each 16-week term or paired 8-week terms grouped in fall, winter/spring, and summer.
  • Beverly Dewey of Enfield has been named to Southern New Hampshire University's winter 2023 Dean's List. The winter terms run from January to May. Full-time undergraduate students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.500 to 3.699 for the reporting term are named to the Dean's List. Full-time status is achieved by earning 12 credits over each 16-week term or paired 8-week terms grouped in fall, winter/spring, and summer.

  • The Western New England University chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma National Honor Society welcomed 35 students at the University's annual induction ceremony on April 27 in the University Commons. Beta Gamma Sigma is a national honor society for business majors at schools accredited by AACSB International, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Students are selected from the top 7 percent of juniors, top 10 percent of seniors, and top 20 percent of graduate students. Candidates must have completed two semesters of study at Western New England University. Kyle Lyons of Enfield is working toward a MS in sport leadership & coaching. Danielle Orr of Enfield is working toward a MS in accounting.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester MA

  • A total of 2,054 undergraduate students achieved the criteria required for WPI's spring 2023 Dean's List. The criteria for the WPI Dean's List differs from that of most other universities as WPI does not compute a grade point average (GPA). Instead, WPI defines the Dean's List by the amount of work completed at the A level in courses and projects. Honorees from Enfield are Abigail Barksdale, class of 2024, majoring in actuarial mathematics; Cameron Carlin, class of 2024, majoring in chemical engineering; Max Cisneros, class of 2025, majoring in mechanical engineering; Michael Conroy, class of 2025, majoring in robotics engineering; Pratham Patel, class of 2025, majoring in architectural engineering; Benjamin Penti, class of 2025, majoring in mechanical engineering; Reid Vacharakupt, class of 2026, majoring in biomedical engineering; and Vivian Vacharakupt, class of 2024, majoring in civil engineering.
  • All students at Worcester Polytechnic Institute are required to complete a senior thesis as part of the university's distinctive project-based educational experience called the Major Qualifying Project (MQP), one that is usually team-based and often focuses on very specific issues or needs of an organization that has partnered with the university to sponsor the student's work. A signature element of the innovative undergraduate experience at WPI, project-based learning offers students the opportunity to apply their scientific and technical knowledge to real problems that affect the quality of people's lives-an experience that changes the student and their world. Two students from Enfield recently completed their MQP: Sarah Boynton, majoring in biomedical engineering, class of 2023, completed the project titled Alerting Risk of ACL Injury in Female Horizontal Jumps, and Aaron Longo, majoring in mechanical engineering and robotics engineering, class of 2023, completed the project titled 6-Axis Mobile Construction 3-D Printer.
  • At WPI, all undergraduates are required to complete a research-driven, professional-level project that applies science and technology that addresses an important societal need or issue. About two-thirds of students complete a project at one of the university's 50-plus off-campus project centers, which are located around the world. A signature element of the innovative undergraduate experience at WPI, the project-based curriculum offers students the opportunity to apply their scientific and technical knowledge to develop thoughtful solutions to real problems that affect the quality of people's lives-and make a difference before they graduate. Abigail Barksdale of Enfield, class of 2024 majoring in actuarial mathematics, completed a project titled Opportunities for Engagement in the Thermi Youth Council. Vivian Vacharakupt of Enfield, class of 2024 majoring in civil engineering, completed a project titled Using data to serve the St. Pancras Community.
