Demolition Begins On Old AAA Building In Enfield
The nearly half-century old brick building is being torn down to make room for a new car wash.

ENFIELD, CT — Nearly a half-century ago, when Enfield was in the midst of an expansion which saw the population increase about 50 percent in a 10-year span, many old houses in the 90-110 block of Elm Street were razed in favor of commercial properties. One of those brick buildings, at 109 Elm Street, was built in 1973, and for many years has been home to the AAA Auto Club, among other businesses.
AAA recently opened its new home at 25 Hazard Avenue, in space formerly occupied by a commuter parking lot. As part of a proposal approved in October by the Planning & Zoning Commission, the 6,405 square-foot former Elm Street site is being demolished to make way for a new car wash facility.
The car wash will be 3,200 square feet, and will include 17 vacuum stations. Planned hours will be daily from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., according to the site plan unanimously approved last fall.
