Donald Edwin Royce, 85; Retired Auto Mechanic, Avid Bowler, Enjoyed Hunting and Fishing

Calling hours for the Enfield resident will be held Friday, Feb. 27 with the funeral scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28.

Donald Edwin Royce, 85, of Enfield, CT, entered into Eternal Rest on Tuesday, February 24, 2015, at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT with his family by his side.

Donnie was born in Windsor, CT in January of 1930, the son of the late Andrew and Mabel (Blanchard) Royce.

Donnie retired in 1994 from Troiano’s Auto Center after 41 years as a mechanic. After retiring he went to work for CarQuest delivering auto parts. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed his morning Dunkin Donuts group. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Sergeant during the Korean War. He was a member of the Amvets.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing up in Vermont with his family, and spending time with his grandchildren to who he was known as Grandpa, Gramps, and Poppy. One of his favorite things to do with them was mow the lawn, each of them have gotten a turn to mow the lawn with Gramps. He was an amazing man who made a lasting impression on many family and friends. With everyone that Don met he showed them unconditional love and affection and what real family values are. He will be missed but never forgotten.

He leaves his wife, Eileen (Currie) Royce, four children a son William Royce of New York City NY; a son David and his wife Michelle of Vernon CT; a son Andrew Royce Sr. and his wife Suzanne of Somers CT; a daughter Jennifer Jones and her husband Michael of Enfield CT; a brother Raymond Royce Sr. and his wife Anna of Sharon VT. He also leaves his grandchildren and great grandchildren, A.J., Corbin, Timothy and Elizabeth Royce, Mariah and Makayla Jones; Lacie and Ava; and many nieces and nephews. Donald was predeceased by his first wife Marylu (Griswold); brothers Harvey and Gordon; and a sister Muriel.

A funeral service for Donnie will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2015, at 10 am at Leete Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61South Rd., Enfield, CT. Burial with military honors will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Suffield, CT, Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family on Friday, February 27, 2015, from, 4 pm to 8 pm at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Francis Foundation C/o CHF Unit, 95 Woodland St., Hartford, CT 06105.
