The single biggest issue in town is ______, and I plan to do this about it:
The single most pressing issue facing our town is the development of the Thompsonville area. With the promise of a train stop, Enfield lacks an inviting area to gather. I would like to make Enfield a destination for shopping, and entertainment, as well as a welcoming town for new businesses to thrive. With the addition of Higgins Park, the opening of several small self-owned businesses along Rt 5, and larger employers like Agri-Mark calling Enfield home, and we are on our way to accomplishing this.
Critical differences between me and my opponents:
I see Enfield growing while still being fiscally smart. Every town carries debt, however, I do not believe in large unsustainable debt. At this time Enfield has an AA+ rating with Standard & Poors, and allowing us to bond at a very low sustainable rate. I will work hard to maintain that Enfield continues on this path.
Accomplishments:
I believe that my life experiences will make me a great Town Councilor for Enfield. As a former Enfield business owner, (Act 1 Hair Studio 1978-1989), I understand what it's like to operate and maintain a small business. For the past 24 years I worked as an insurance agent for an office in Enfield. My job had many responsibilities beyond writing polices. These tasks included basic customer service, claim resolution, collection of payments, and as well as advising clients of their best insurance needs.
Other issues:
Enfield has always been a close caring community and and I will do all I can to continue to keep lines of communication open for our residents and local government. Our residents should always feel comfortable speaking their mind and sharing their ideas. Everyone should be respected for their views on what is important to Enfield.
What else would you like voters to know about you?
When I look back on my life there has been a pattern of helping others. When our girls were in grammar school I was there to help teachers with whatever they needed. In 1998 I started Children Helping Children. Working together with local families we raised thousands of dollars for children diagnosed with cancer and or life threatening illnesses. This group continued for ten years. As our daughters grew and became involved in athletics, I was there to help fund raise. I am currently part of the Amy Romano Scholarship Committee. I am proud to say our group just held the 12th annual Field Hockey Scrimmage to raise money for her scholarship. When my mom became a resident at Parkway Pavilion I quickly found myself advocating for the residents that had no one to speak for them. I still volunteer there on a weekly basis. So now as I enter retirement, and I feel it's the perfect time to volunteer my time and talents to the town I have called home for my entire life.
