COLORADO SPRINGS, CO — Former Enfield resident and Enrico Fermi High School graduate Andrew Haraghey is among nine athletes who will represent the United States at the FIS Para Alpine Skiing World Championships beginning this weekend in Espot, Spain.

On Tuesday, U.S. Paralympics Alpine Skiing named the six American men and three women who will be competing in the championships, which run from Jan. 21 through 29.

Haraghey, a 2-time Paralympian, makes his third world championships roster after recording a career-best 15th-place finish in downhill at last year’s worlds.

Eight of the nine American competitors are former Paralympians who will look to utilize their experience on the world’s biggest stage in pursuit of the podium in Espot. Headlined by Paralympic medalists Laurie Stephens of Wenham, Massachusetts and Thomas Walsh of Vail, Colorado, the team seeks to build on the four medals it won at last year’s World Para Snow Sports Championships, according to a news release from Team USA.

"This team is eager to continue their competitive progression amongst the best athletes in the world," U.S. Paralympic Alpine Skiing’s associate director of high performance Tony McAllister said. "We have already had a great start to the world cup season and are excited to continue climbing the ranks as we begin this new Paralympic quad."
