Enfield Businesswoman Honored With National Award

Kelly Construction Services has been honored by the U.S. Small Business Administration with one of 10 national awards.

ENFIELD, CT — An Enfield woman and business owner has defied the odds by succeeding in a previously male-dominated industry, and has been rewarded for her efforts with nationwide recognition.

During Small Business Week, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) presented its Woman-Owned Business of the Year award to Kelly Construction Services Inc. Owned by Kelly Fisher, the business is one of 10 recipients nationwide of the SBA honor.

Fisher has over 30 years experience in the construction industry, and her company, established in 2006 and currently based at 120 Post Road, employs up to 16 full-time workers for projects in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New York.

She acquired her business knowledge from working closely with her father and brother while growing up, and has incessantly broken barriers and continues to help break boundaries and inspire more women to join the building trades.

"Kelly Construction Services is honored to receive this award," Fisher said in an email to Patch. "Here at Kelly Construction, we are a team, and it took the efforts of all to win this award. There have been bumps in the road getting to this point. I have to jump many hurdles in the male-dominated profession to prove myself and the work we do. I feel with the great management and support teams that we have proven a women-driven business can do just as well as any other company."

The award was announced Tuesday at the beginning of a 3-day virtual conference in conjunction with National Small Business Week.
