Following Dallas Tragedy, Enfield Community Showing Support for Local Police Officers

A number of residents have dropped by police headquarters Friday with cards, flowers, cookies and notes.

Enfield, CT - In the wake of the murder of five Dallas, Texas police officers Thursday night, citizens in a community 1,700 miles away are showing support for their local law enforcement personnel.

On Friday morning, about a half-dozen Enfield residents had stopped at police headquarters, delivering coffee, flowers, cards and notes. The common message: "we care about our police officers."

One note, written by what appears to be a preschool child, stated simply, "Dear police, thank you for keeping me and my brother safe." Another card, signed by "The Community of Enfield," read, "Your lives matter! Thank you for your service and all that you do!"

Police Chief Carl Sferrazza said, "The mood here today is somber, but every officer knew when they took this job that there would be danger. This is a whole new level of danger. These unsolicited small gestures of support have a lot of power to us. To have the people you're sworn to protect do this means a great deal."
