Enfield Defense Keys 49-36 Win at Suffield

When the Suffield boys basketball team traveled to Enfield less than three weeks ago, the Wildcats led in the fourth quarter before eventually coming up short by a 50-47 count.

Tuesday night's rematch had an entirely different look, as Enfield used an 8-0 spurt in the second quarter to open up a 12-point halftime lead, en route to a 49-36 victory and a sweep of the season series.

Paul Lima, who was held scoreless in the opening quarter, canned back-to-back three-pointers to ignite the Raiders' run. He finished with a game-high 15 points.

Enfield's defense played well, holding the Wildcats to just six points in the second quarter.

"We've been up and down all year with our defense," Enfield head coach Cory O'Connell said. "When we do it, we do it well, but we've been inconsistent."

Damien Gunn had seven points in the first half for Suffield, but was kept off the scoresheet after intermission.

"Their defense is so good, it never stops, there's pressure on you all the time," Suffield coach Dan Gatto said. "Gunn can really shoot it, but they started taking that away."

Enfield led by as many as 20 in the second half, and the Wildcats never got closer than 13.

Gezim Ramadani led Suffield with 10 points, all in the second half.

Both teams are scheduled to resume action with home games Friday at 7 p.m. Enfield (13-2) hosts SMSA, while Suffield (10-6) entertains Ellington.
