Enfield Elks, Firefighters Pitch In for Army Guard Unit's Holiday Party

Members of the 1048th Transportation Company and their families celebrated the holidays at Enfield Elks Lodge 2222 on Sunday, Dec. 14.

Some 160 members of the CT Army National Guard’s 1048th Transportation Company and their families celebrated the holidays at the Enfield Elks Lodge on December 14th. The Elks donated their hall for the event and had numerous volunteers working at the event and behind the scenes throughout the day.

Food cooked by lodge members was served by 14 firefighters from Enfield’s local fire departments. The firefighters not only volunteered their time, but also arranged for Santa Claus to be transported to the party on a firetruck.

The 1048th returned to CT in August after a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan. The unit used to be headquartered in Stratford, but recently moved to Enfield. The company is commanded by Captain Joshua Malaro; his First Sergeant is MSG Paul Valvo.
