  • “I would like to nominate a friend and co-worker of mine. He works with dogs from all over, placing at-risk ones in eminent danger of being euthanized and rehabilitating them through different programs. His name is Steven Curran and he is a correctional officer and dog program coordinator for the State Department of Correction. He is assigned to Garner Correctional Facility in Newtown, but works with the dog programs in several places they are in Cheshire, Niantic, Enfield, Montville and Newtown. The town the dog group he works with is based in Old Saybrook. He spends much of his free time rescuing dogs and created and oversees several rescue programs within the DOC and is also in the process of setting up programs within additional facilities.”

Why do you feel is this person an Everyday Hero?

  • “I feel Officer Curran is an everyday hero, because he has an enormous heart and capacity for love of animals. That isn’t something he just preaches, he practices it every single day of his life and he is helping others to do the same. He doesn’t do it for accolades or to impress anyone, he does it because it is in his heart.”
