Enfield Fencing Club Members Win Medals At Nutmeg State Games [VIDEO]

A club member from Enfield captured gold and another from Ellington won a silver medal in state competition Sunday in Middletown.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — Two members of the Enfield Fencing Club had successful outings Sunday in the Nutmeg State Games, capturing gold and silver medals at Middletown High School.

Andres Friebus, 24, of Enfield, won the gold medal in the Senior Mixed Saber division, besting 21 other athletes. Ryder Bidwell, 17, of Ellington, captured the silver medal in the E & Under Senior Mixed Saber category, which attracted 23 competitors.

The Nutmeg State Games is the largest amateur multi-sport event in Connecticut, having just concluded its 31st year. In 2022, more than 7,500 athletes competed in 22 different sport offerings.
