Police Chief Carl Sferrazza said Enfield police were called by staff at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Stafford Wedneday morning, informing them of the presence of a man in the emergency room who said he had been stabbed by his roommate. They also informed police the person who committed the stabbing was in the hospital lobby.
Some officers spoke with the victim, who said he has rented a room from Napper for about a month. He said Napper asked for money a few days ago, but he refused, so Napper became enraged and began throwing food and other items around the house, Sferrazza said.

Napper went into the kitchen and grabbed an 8-inch knife, which he held while chasing the victim outside the house, then back inside. In the victim's room, Napper allegedly attempted to stab him, but the victim says he grabbed the knife by the blade to prevent the attack, slicing open his palm in the process, Sferrazza said.
The victim said he was afraid to call police, but went to the hospital when the wound began getting infected, Sferrazza said.
Other officers questioned Napper in the lobby, who claimed the victim cut himself on the knife, Sferrazza said.
Police took Napper into custody, and a search of his person revealed a syringe, a glass pipe containing residue and some heroin, the chief said.
