Enfield Man Is a Big Winner In Super Bowl Contest
He was one of two grand prize winners during a Rocket Mortgage Super Bowl contest Sunday.
ENFIELD, CT — In the waning seconds of the first half of a 10-10 tie in Super Bowl LIV Sunday, the San Francisco 49ers completed a 42-yard pass play from Jimmy Garoppolo to George Kittle, ending at the Kansas City Chiefs' 13 yard line and setting up at least a short field goal opportunity to take the lead at intermission. However, an offensive pass interference call against Kittle negated the play, leaving the score knotted at halftime.
Of the roughly 100 million viewers tuned into the big game on the Fox network, no one could have been any more jubilant about that penalty call than a man identified only as "David L. from Enfield, CT." With the score remaining 10-10 at halftime instead of 13-10 or 17-10, the double zeroes became the halftime winning numbers in the Rocket Mortgage Super Bowl Squares Sweepstakes. The aforementioned David L. had Chiefs 0, 49ers 0 in the contest, and thus won the halftime prize of $500,000 to be used toward a new home.
Each scoring change during the game resulted in a $50,000 prize to the person holding the last digits of each team's score. There were 15 such changes during the contest, plus the $500,000 prize for those holding the numbers at halftime and at the game's conclusion. A man from Steeleville, Ill. had the game-ending numbers (Chiefs 1, 49ers 0) to claim the other half-million dollar reward.
