Enfield Man Charged With Assaulting Father

The bleeding man ran off into a nearby cornfield, prompting an extensive search by local and state police.

ENFIELD, CT — An Enfield man was arrested Monday in connection with an incident last week in which he allegedly beat his father in the head with a flashlight.

Anthony Pozzato, 23, of 204 Abbe Road, was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree breach of peace and possession of a controlled substance. Bond was set at $5,000, and he was slated to appear in Enfield Superior Court Tuesday.

Police Chief Carl Sferrazza said Pozzato came to the police department around 7:50 p.m. on Sept. 28, reporting he had hit his father in the head with a flashlight during a dispute which began after the pair had been drinking in the parking lot of the Big E.

Pozzato told police his father had run off from their home on Abbe Road following the beating, which resulted in a head laceration, and the father had told him he was in a nearby cornfield, Sferrazza said.

Police began searching for the man, but were unable to locate him. A canine unit and a state police helicopter were brought in to assist with the search, which continued until 2 a.m., at which time a Silver Alert was issued for the man, Sferrazza said.

Around 4:30 a.m., the man returned to his home. He refused medical attention, Sferrazza said.

Inside the house, police discovered several green leafy plants, later shown to be marijuana, the chief added.
