Enfield Man Charged With Hitting Woman Who Was Holding a Child

He is facing multiple charges, police said.

ENFIELD, CT — A woman with a child in her arms was able to escape a violent domestic incident by activating her home security system's alert button, police said.

The incident at 10:37 p.m. on Sunday led to the arrest of 48-year-old Jose Garcia on charges that include interfering with an emergency call, third-degree assault, risk of injury to a child, second-degree unlawful restraint and disorderly conduct, according to police records. He was held on a $50,000 bond, police said.

Police said Garcia, who lives at 62 Raffia Road in Enfield, was in a verbal argument with a woman and then tried to prevent her from calling authorities.

The woman had had a young child in her arms and Garcia lifted both off the ground by the woman's wrist and then struck her in the face while she was holding the child, police said.

The woman was able to push the emergency button on the home's alarm system, police said.

Officers arrived and arrested Garcia, according to a police administrator.
