Enfield Man Faces Negligent Homicide Charge In Death Of Young Son

The cause of death of the 1-year-old boy was ruled as "acute fentanyl intoxication" by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

ENFIELD, CT — An Enfield man was charged with criminally negligent homicide on a warrant Wednesday in connection with the fentanyl-related death of his 1-year-old son nearly a year ago.

On Nov. 22, 2021 at 5:37 p.m., Enfield police responded to a home on North Maple Street, very close to the Massachusetts state line, regarding the untimely death of a male child. Subsequent investigation included an examination of the victim by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, which ruled the cause of death as "acute fentanyl intoxication" and his manner of death as "undetermined," Police Chief Alaric Fox said

The Enfield Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for Lenin Rodriguez, 30, on Wednesday. He turned himself in at Enfield police headquarters, and was additionally charged with risk of injury to a child, Fox said.

Rodriguez was released after posting $50,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court Nov. 29.
