Enfield Moves To Foreclose Over $45K In Blight Fines

ENFIELD, CT — Enfield is moving to foreclose on a property-maintenance lien tied to a four-unit apartment building at 42 Asnuntuck St., where more than $45,000 in fines have accumulated.

The Town Council voted Monday to authorize the town attorney to begin foreclosure proceedings against the property.

The case began in March 2021, when the town issued a citation over trash on the property. A lien was recorded three months later, according to the council meeting packet.

Town officials confirmed in November 2022 that the trash had been removed. By then, however, the unpaid fines had reached $45,024.

Other problems at the property remain unresolved, including building, zoning and fire-code violations, according to town records. Officials said there has been no progress toward correcting those violations and no inspection of the property since December 2025.

The Blight Review Committee voted Sept. 3 to recommend foreclosure after reviewing the case. The property does not have any town-funded cleanup liens, and its taxes and sewer charges are current.

The council’s vote does not transfer ownership of the property to the town. It allows the town attorney to pursue the property-maintenance lien in court.
