Enfield Police Charge Man With Strangulation

The man allegedly violated a protective order by confronting his former girlfriend and choking her, according to police.

ENFIELD, CT — Police arrested a Hartford man early Sunday morning after his ex-girlfriend reported she had been strangled by him during a domestic dispute.

Kasean Rivers, 29, was charged with first-degree strangulation, third-degree assault, second-degree breach of peace and violation of a protective order. Bond was set at $75,000, and he was scheduled to appear Monday in Enfield Superior Court.

Police Chief Carl Sferrazza said officers were dispatched to a home on Marshall Drive at 1:10 a.m., where a woman reported Rivers, her former boyfriend and father of her child, had called her and threatened to beat her up, then showed up at the house and told her to leave with him. When she refused, he grabbed her by the neck, rendering her unable to breathe, before she eventually broke free and called police, at which time Rivers ran off.

Upon arrival at the scene, police observed clear evidence of strangulation on the woman's neck, though she refused medical treatment. While interviewing the woman, Rivers emerged from a wooded area and was arrested, Sferrazza said.

One of the charges against Rivers alleges he violated a standing protective order issued on behalf of the woman.
