Enfield Police Officer Seen on Video Hitting Suspect

Video shot by an Enfield police cruiser dash camera shows three officers arresting an unarmed Windsor man during an arrest in April, according to a report.

Officer Matthew Worden can be seen striking Mark Maher at least three times while the man was on the ground with the other two officers on top of him, according to The Courant, which obtained the videos from one of Maher’s defense attorneys.

The videos may be played in stater Superior Court in Enfield on Tuesday when lawyers try to have charges of interfering with a police officer dropped, according to the report. Maher has filed an notice of intent to sue the town, claiming police brutality against Worden and the other officers who were at the town’s boat launch on April 1 where Maher and three friends were drinking.

Worden is the subject of an internal affairs investigation into the incident. He’s been an Enfield officer for 10 years and is on paid administrative leave. Last month, Hartford State’s Attorney Gail Hardy refused to sign an arrest warrant after Enfield police submitted a seven-page arrest warrant application seeking to charge Worden with third-degree assault.
