UPDATE: Enfield Rolls into State Quarterfinals With 70-49 Drubbing of Goodwin Tech

Seniors Paul Lima and Kevin Camidge combined to nearly equal the scoring output of their opponents Thursday, as Enfield jumped to a 46-23 halftime lead en route to a 70-49 victory over Goodwin Tech in the second round of the Class M state basketball tournament.

Lima hit for 24 points, mainly from the outside, while Camidge dominated the inside with a career-high 23.

"I felt it was our game to win, and we took it," Camidge said.

Enfield head coach Cory O'Connell was quite pleased with Camidge's play of late.

"It's something I know Kevin has in him, and I've been telling him to be more aggressive," O'Connell said. "He's a quality, versatile player."

Enfield never trailed in the contest, as Camidge opened the scoring with a rare three-pointer. Goodwin Tech managed one offensive spurt with an 8-0 run in the first quarter, but the Raiders put the game away with a 14-0 stretch shortly before halftime.

The Gladiators got no closer than 19 the entire second half, with Enfield stretching its advantage to 29 at one point.

Ra Preston joined Lima and Camidge in double figures, hitting for 12 points. Damion Hewett led Goodwin Tech with 19 points, while Jensey Baez added 15.

Sixth-seeded Enfield faces a challenge from #19 Berlin, which upset #3 Bethel 57-56 Wednesday to reach the quarterfinals. That game was scheduled for Friday, but has been postponed due to snow. The contest has been re-scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m. at Enfield High School.

"Berlin is a very tough opponent, and we're going to need every hoop," O'Connell said.
