Enfield School Official On Leave Amid Investigation

He has been on paid leave since Sept. 10, according to a letter from the superintendent of schools.

ENFIELD, CT — The chief personnel officer of Enfield Public Schools has been on paid administrative leave since Sept. 10 amid an investigation into "certain matters related to your conduct," according to a disciplinary file obtained by Patch under Freedom of Information law.

John Coccia, a former assistant principal at Enrico Fermi High School who assumed his current position on July 1, 2013, received a letter from Superintendent of Schools Chris Drezek on Sept. 11, a day after a telephone conversation between the two connected to the investigation. He was placed on administrative leave "until further notice from me," Drezek wrote.

The nature of the investigation was not made available.

Among the conditions in the agreement, Coccia is forbidden from entering the premises of any school or administrative building in the district, or from attending any school-sponsored activities. He is not permitted to access any portion of the district's computer system, including e-mail, and may not "have any contact with any Enfield Public Schools students, parents/guardians or staff members."

Coccia is paid a yearly salary of $144,742, according to personnel records.

An e-mail obtained by Patch shows Drezek notified the Board of Education that "a central office administrator is currently out on administrative leave" on Sept. 24.
