Enfield Senior Center Schedule for the Week

From a radio reenactment to concerts, flu shots and day trips, there are plenty of activities planned.

Connecticut actor William Gillette’s first radio broadcast mystery was “Sherlock Holmes and the Adventure of the Speckled Band.” The Sherlock Holmes Radio Show will reenact this 30-minute, live-action, 1930s show with sound effects and audience participation. Join us on Thursday, Oct. 23. Dessert and coffee will be served at 6 p.m. before the show. Tickets are $5 per person.

It is open enrollment time. If you need a hand or some advice about enrolling in a Part D or supplemental plan, the Medicare Enrollment bus is on the way! On Tuesday, Oct. 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Medicare Bus will be at the Enfield Senior Center with trained staff and volunteers to help answer your questions. Many people can be seen in just one day, so make an appointment by calling the Senior Center office.

Landmark at Monastery Heights invites you to come to visit their senior living facility on Friday, Oct. 17. They are sending a bus to the Enfield Senior Center at 11 a.m. You will receive a tour and lunch and then transportation back to the Enfield Senior Center. The bus can accommodate 14 people. Please register in the Senior Center office.

Just drop in for a flu shot when it is convenient for you so that you can stay healthy. Choose from Wednesday, Oct. 15 from 4 to 6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. to noon, Friday, Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to noon, or Wednesday, Nov. 12 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Don’t forget your Medicare or insurance card.

The Enfield Senior Center is proud to present Bennie & The Jets in Concert on Friday, Oct. 17 at 6 p.m. This amazing Elton John tribute band usually plays larger venues all over the country. They are coming to entertain at the Senior Center as a benefit for Senior Center programs. Imagine the glasses, costume changes and wonderful music including, “Candle in the Wind”, “Crocodile Rock”, “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” and more great hits. Tickets are on sale in the Senior Center office for $7 per person including dessert and coffee at the break.

Play Pickleball at the South Road Tennis/Pickleball Courts on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon. Pickleball equipment packs are available for loan at the Enfield Senior Center for practice. Simply sign them out and return them when you are done.

All programs on Public Access Channel 15 are produced by volunteers. Training and equipment are offered at no charge, to any Cox Enfield franchise resident to produce non-profit shows of interest to the community. On Monday, Oct. 27 at 1 p.m., Access Coordinator, Sandy Zukowski, will be at the Senior Center to talk about Community TV Production. Join us on that day or call 860-698-6124 for more information.

Join us for a day trip, on Wednesday, Nov. 12, to the Garde Arts Center in New London, CT to see The Lettermen. Known for their easy listening vocals, The Lettermen will be performing many of their gold record hits. “When I Fall in Love”, “Summer Place”, “Going Out of my Head”, and “Shangri-La” are just some of the hits you’ll recognize. Prior to the 3 p.m. show, you’ll have time to explore Mohegan Sun Casino, which includes $20 free slot play or free bet, and a $10 meal voucher. To receive a casino bonus, passengers must have a Player’s Club Card or be able to sign up for one on the day of the trip. Price: $88 pp. Reservations are being accepted at the Enfield Senior Center front desk.

· Salem, MA, Oct. 21, Cost: $87 pp.

· The Lettermen at the Garde Arts Center, Nov. 12. Cost: $88 pp.

· Texas Tenors at Foxwoods Casino, Dec. 11. Cost: $70 pp.

· Santa & the Goldtones at the Log Cabin Restaurant, Dec. 11. Cost: $52 pp. Tickets are available at the Senior Center Front Desk.

· It’s a Wonderful Life at the Stageloft Theatre, Salem Cross Inn, Dec. 13. Cost: $75 pp. Sign-up date is Friday, October 17, 2014, starting at 10 a.m., Senior Center Dining Room.

2-Day Trip

Reservations are being accepted for this 2-day trip.

· Victorian Streetwalk in Saratoga, Dec. 4-5, 2014. Cost: $307 pp/dbl.

Multi-Day Adventures

Reservations are being accepted for multi-day adventures.
