ENFIELD, CT — With schoolchildren, more and more, venturing into summer mode, one additional sign that pencils and books are about to be put away happens Saturday at Edgar H. Parkman School.

That's because the Parkman School splash pad, located at 165 Weymouth Road, will open for another summer season after its inaugural campaign a year ago.

Children and families can show up at 8 a.m. and cool off (if the temperatures call for it).
While school is in session, the splash pad will only be open weekends from 8 a.m. to dusk and from 3 p.m. to dusk during the week.

Then, when the last day of school finishes and summer arrives, the splash pad is open daily starting June 24 from 8 a.m. to dusk until summer ends.

A year ago, the Town of Enfield spent $100,000 to construct the splash pad, which comprises various features that squirt and spray water, all with the goal of cooling off and having fun.

Whether Mother Nature will cooperate Saturday remains to be seen, as current forecasts are calling for a temperature of 63 degrees at 8 a.m., when the pad opens — which is a tad chilly.

But, according to The Weather Channel, the high will top out later in the day to 80 degrees, albeit under cloudy skies, making a soaking somewhat more realistic.
