Enfield State Representative Faces Drunk Driving Charge

The arrest occurred early Saturday, according to a report.

State Rep. David Alexander, who was reelected to a second term as Enfield’s representative in November, reportedly was arrested on a drunk driving charge in Windsor Locks early Saturday.

Alexander (D-58) acknowledged the drunk driving arrest and apologized for the incident in a statement he released to NBC Connecticut on Saturday. In the statement Alexander, who is a captain with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves, said he will “get the necessary help to overcome my struggles with alcohol.”

In January, he was appointed Vice Chairman of the General Assembly’s Government Administration and Elections Committee (GAE) by House Speaker Brendan Sharkey (D-88), who told NBC Connecticut on Saturday the arrest is “serious enough to warrant” Alexander’s removal from his leadership role.
