Fermi Runner Qualifies for New England Championships
The New England meet will be held on Nov. 14 in Vermont.
Just one runner from Fermi High School participated in Friday’s State Open cross country meet at Wickham Park in Manchester, but she made the most of the opportunity.
Sydney Nash, a sophomore, placed 17th in a field of 181 competitors to earn a medal and a spot in the New England Championships next weekend.
Nash covered the hilly 3.1 mile terrain in 19:43, or 44 seconds faster than she ran last week in placing 10th at the Class M meet on the same course.

At the Class M meet, Nash finished behind a quintet of Tolland runners, who swept to their fifth straight M championship. On Friday, she beat three of those Eagles, who captured their third straight State Open title.
Nash will compete in the New England Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 14 at Thetford Academy, just outside of White River Junction, VT.
