ENFIELD, CT - A portion of Route 5 was closed for nearly three hours as firefighters battled a blaze in a three-family home on the corner of Enfield and John streets.

The fire at 1015 Enfield Street, across from the former Alcorn School, was reported at 2:56 p.m. The entire front section of the building, constructed around 1900, was charred.

One person escaped via a window and was assisted by Enfield EMS for treatment. There were 12 people displaced, who are being assisted by the Red Cross, Thompsonville Fire Chief David Deskis said.

The fire was brought under control in about an hour.

"The structure had many void spaces which made extinguishment timely," Deskis said. "No firefighters were injured, and the four other fire districts in town assisted."
