ENFIELD, CT — Multiple families were displaced from their homes following a fire in a 4-family house in the Thompsonville section of Enfield late Wednesday afternoon.

The blaze at 31 South Street was reported around 3:51 p.m., with first responders finding heavy fire conditions in one of the apartments in the 120-plus year-old structure. Mutual aid was called in from all five town fire departments, and due to a proliferation of incidents already in progress at the time, members of the Suffield Fire Department were called to assist, Thompsonville Fire Chief David Deskis said.

The fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes, but the structure was deemed uninhabitable due to smoke damage in the adjoining units. No injuries were reported, but a dog was found dead at the fire scene, Deskis said.
