Fire Quickly Contained In Enfield Multi-Family Home

The fire was reported shortly after noon Friday and was contained within a half hour, fire officials said.

ENFIELD, CT — Firefighters quickly contained a fire in an Elm street multi-family home early Friday afternoon, according to Mark Zarcaro, public information officer for the fire departments of Enfield.

The fire at 26 Elm Street was reported at 12:27 p.m., with two people saying they were on the third floor, which was filling with smoke. They had escaped by the time rescue personnel arrived, Zarcaro said.

Firefighters had the blaze under control within a half hour. The cause is under investigation, Zarcaro said.

Yankee Gas and Eversource were on scene to assist with safety precautions, he added.

A notification from the Enfield Alert system advised motorists to avoid Elm Street between Route 5 and D'Annunzio Avenue, as the road will be closed for several hours.
