ENFIELD, CT — A positive case of the coronavirus was confirmed in a 26-year-old Enfield resident by the North Central District Health Department Thursday, according to a message from the town manager's office. No further information about the patient was immediately available.

The new coronavirus emerged in China in December 2019. The symptoms are a dry cough, fever and shortness of breath. Residents are advised to follow guidance provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Connecticut Department of Public Health.

Best practices are to stay home if sick except to get medical care, if needed; avoid close contact with people who are sick; frequently washing your hands with soap and water for a minimum of 20 seconds; covering a cough; avoiding face contact; and cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces such as doorknobs, light switches, tables and countertops.
