Historic Unified Flag Football Game Played in Enfield
The first-ever game of its type in Connecticut saw a spirited contest between Enfield and Simsbury high schools.
ENFIELD, CT — History was made on Friday, Oct. 20, when the Enfield High School Unified Sports program hosted the first-ever Unified Flag Football game in Connecticut. The Simsbury High School Unified team claimed a 50-36 victory, but both programs were successful because of the teamwork and enjoyment demonstrated in the competition.
Some highlights of the historic game included Enfield’s first-ever touchdown by Samantha Merrill, stellar quarterback play by Kobe Dunne, a drive-ending sack by Charles Beas and a 50-yard run by Cam Easley.
Both Enfield and Simsbury programs were recently named National Champion Banner Schools by Special Olympics for exemplifying social inclusion in their respective schools.
