Young Man Killed by Hit-and-Run Driver in Enfield Identified
The man was apparently struck by a vehicle while skateboarding on a busy state road, according to police.

ENFIELD, CT — A young man is dead after apparently being struck by a vehicle while skateboarding on Route 5 early Friday morning, police said.
Police Chief Carl Sferrazza said officers were called to the area of Enfield Street and Orlando Drive around 1 a.m. with a report of a dead body on the side of the road.
The victim, identified Friday afternoon as Jeremy Mercier, 20, of 33 Parsons Road, appeared to have been skateboarding when he was struck by a northbound vehicle, which left the scene without stopping, Sferrazza said.

An investigation was immediately launched by the Enfield Police Department traffic division and a Metro unit. The road was closed from the time of arrival until about 6:30 a.m., Sferrazza said.
