How Enfield Residents Can Stay Warm During The Severe Cold Alert
The state's severe cold weather protocol is in effect through February 5 as temperatures plunge.
ENFIELD, CT — With a stretch of bitter cold expected to linger into early February, Connecticut officials have activated the state’s severe cold weather protocol, triggering expanded access to warming locations in Enfield.
The alert is in effect through February 5, as prolonged below-freezing temperatures and dangerous wind chills are forecast statewide. Local officials are urging residents who lack reliable heat — or anyone needing a warm place during the cold snap — to take advantage of the available locations.

During the activation period, the Safe Harbor Warming Center will operate overnight from 5:30 p.m. to 9 a.m.
Several municipal buildings are also available during regular hours. The Pearl Street Library is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Fridays from noon to 6 p.m., but is closed on weekends. The Central Library is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is closed Sundays.

The Enfield Senior Center is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is closed on weekends.
For those needing immediate shelter at any hour, the Enfield Police Department lobby is open 24/7.
Residents can also call 211 for additional warming center options and cold-weather assistance resources.
