ENFIELD, CT — In the wake of Gov. Ned Lamont's report late Tuesday afternoon that Connecticut's coronavirus positivity rate jumped nearly 2 percent overnight to 4.1 percent, the highest since early June, school officials in Enfield decided to push back the scheduled date to re-open all of the town's schools for full-time in-person learning.

The change had been slated for Nov. 9, but Superintendent of Schools Chris Drezek recommended maintaining the current hybrid schedule of in-person and remote learning until after Thanksgiving.

"I don't see any indication for us to change what we're doing because, although it's not perfect, it's working - our buildings are open," Drezek said during Tuesday night's Board of Education meeting. "I can't make that promise to you if I put everybody back in."

Drezek said he consulted with numerous superintendents before making his decision.

"I spoke to many Hartford-area superintendents, and they all said we're putting our plans on hold," he said.

Families who chose remote learning only at the onset of the academic year may decide to opt back in for in-person classes beginning Nov. 9.
