For more than two decades, fast food fans have enjoyed "finger-lickin' good" chicken at the Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants in Enfield and Windsor Locks.
Those days have ended, however, as those locations and five more in western Massachusetts have closed due to the retirement of franchisee Jesse Lanier.
A report by WWLP-TV22 in Springfield said Lanier, 70, had endured recent health issues, and decided to close his seven stores, including the two in Connecticut, three in Springfield and one each in East Longmeadow and Palmer.

“I’ve enjoyed this business immensely, but the rigorous demands of owning a franchise, the soft economy that has affected all franchisees in the fast food business, and my desire to spend more time with my family led me to the decision to close the business,” Lanier said in a statement he sent to the television station.
The Enfield restaurant was at 16 Hazard Ave. in the Brookside Plaza, while the Windsor Locks location was on Route 75.
