Macy's Confirms Enfield Locations Will Close

The company said final clearance sales at the 36 stores which are closing nationwide would begin on Monday, Jan. 11.

The beleaguered Enfield Square shopping mall received more bad news Wednesday, as the announcement of the imminent closure of anchor tenant Macy’s was confirmed.

Enfield is one of 36 locations nationwide that will be shuttered beginning next week.

“In light of our disappointing 2015 sales and earnings performance, we are making adjustments to become more efficient and productive in our operations,” Terry J. Lundgren, chairman and chief executive officer of Macy’s, Inc. said in a prepared statement.

Both the main store, consisting of 166,000 square feet at the west end of the Square, and the men’s and home furnishings center on the south side of the building will be closed. 104 associates will be affected, the statement said.

Nearby, the Eastfield Mall store in Springfield, Mass. is also slated for closure, affecting 71 associates.

The company said final clearance sales at the stores would begin Monday, Jan. 11, and will run for between eight and 12 weeks.
