Man Charged With Burglarizing Enfield House

ENFIELD, CT — A Massachusetts resident turned himself in at Enfield police headquarters Monday morning after a warrant was issued for his arrest on burglary and other charges.

Nicholas Pugliano, 22, of Agawam, was charged with first-degree burglary, a felony, as well as second-degree threatening, second-degree criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. Bond as set at $100,000, which was reduced to $50,000 during his appearance Monday in Enfield Superior Court, according to judicial records.

According to a police report, officers were dispatched around 9:45 p.m. on Nov. 1 to a house on John Street for a reported active burglary. A resident at the home indicated he was awoken by the sound of someone knocking at the back door, but no one was there when the resident checked, Chief Alaric Fox said.

The resident told police he heard knocking again, but again did not find anyone at the door, though he did see a black SUV on nearby Meadow Street. He indicated he went back to bed, then heard footsteps in the living room and discovered Pugliano inside the house, Fox said.

After a brief confrontation, Pugliano allegedly got into the black SUV, then emerged with a hammer and began smashing the windows of the resident's vehicle. The police report stated the vehicle sustained a smashed rear driver's side window and a smashed windshield, Fox said.

An investigation suggested entry into the home was made via a basement hatchway, Fox said.

The resident told police he had received obscenity-laden Instagram and text messages from Pugliano, who had formerly dated the resident's girlfriend, according to Fox.

Pugliano is due back in court Dec. 5.
