ENFIELD, CT — Carr Hardware, a western Massachusetts-based hardware and industrial supplier with seven locations in southern New England, will soon be shuttering its Enfield store on Route 5.

Customers this week received a letter from the company, which Patch has obtained, indicating they were unable to find a new location in town, more suited to business traffic. A store closing sale to sell off its entire inventory will apparently begin Thursday, as signs posted on the door Wednesday morning read, "Closed to prepare for our biggest sale ever! Open June 8th, 8 a.m.-6 p.m."

On Tuesday night, a social media post from the store indicated that shelving and fixtures were available for sale.

Based in Pittsfield, Mass. since 1928, Carr offers over 40,000 different products, including paint, tools, hardware, electrical, plumbing, outdoor living and lawn and garden. Top brand names like Stihl, Carhartt, Milwaukee and Dewalt Tools, Pratt & Lambert Paints and Weber grills have always been featured at the store.

The 11,000 square-foot Enfield store opened in fall 2016 in a small strip plaza at 481 Enfield Street, best remembered by longtime Enfield residents as the former site of Enfield Roller World. Carr had formed a partnership with Brightwood Hardware and moved from its Longmeadow location to Route 5.

Imminent closure of the Enfield store will leave Avon as the only Connecticut location for Carr. It also has Massachusetts outlets in Pittsfield, Great Barrington, Lee, Lenox and North Adams.
