New Veterans Monument Unveiled on Town Green
Monument honors all Enfield veterans who have served in one of the six branches of the armed forces.
A new monument honoring all Enfield veterans has been installed on the town green. It is comprised of eight columns of varying heights which form a half-circle.
The six middle columns each represent a different branch of the armed forces: Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine. Each branch's logo and motto are displayed.
The two end columns contain inscriptions written by Navy veteran Mike Hoffman, co-chairman of the Veterans Monument Committee.

The left-most column reads, "This space is dedicated to the veterans of our community who served the nation in time of danger."
Inscribed on the right-hand column is, "Some are with us still - Many have gone on ahead - Often they responded to a whisper from within - Others rallied to the call - All gave some - Some gave all."

created the monument, which is made of high-gloss reflective black granite.
"We chose that so you can see your own reflection," said committee member Lori Gates. "There are no names or dates, so it's personal between you and the stone."
Gates said the monument is not quite finished. A sidewalk is being constructed, and plans are for the bronze discs to be uplit. "We hope they will catch the light and shine out at night," she said.
