October In Enfield: Fall Fun, Festivals & More

Fall is officially here in Enfield, and there’s no shortage of ways to make the most of it. From festivals and farmers markets to pumpkin patches, live music and other seasonal fun, October brings plenty of reasons to get out and enjoy what’s happening close to home.

Here are some events and activities happening in and around Enfield this October.

Glastonbury Apple Harvest & Music Festival

When: Friday, Oct. 16, 5–10 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 17, 10 a.m.–10 p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 18, 11 a.m.–5 p.m.
Where: Riverfront Park, 300 Welles St., Glastonbury, CT

A short drive from Enfield, the Glastonbury Apple Harvest & Music Festival is celebrating its 51st year with three days of fall fun. The festival features 55 bands on five stages, amusement rides, food trucks, a KidsZONE, artisan vendors and an expanded Harvest Pub. Tickets are available online or at the gate, with free shuttle service offered from Glastonbury High School.

Enfield Jack-O-Lantern Festival

When: Saturday, Oct. 17, 4–8 p.m.
Where: Enfield Town Green, 820 Enfield St., Enfield, CT

Help light up the Town Green during the annual Enfield Jack-O-Lantern Festival. Organizers are hoping to beat the town's previous record of 1,142 illuminated jack-o'-lanterns, and attendees are encouraged to bring a carved pumpkin to add to the display. The evening also features hayrides, a DJ and guided dancing, a costume parade with prizes, candy stations, bounce houses, face painting and lawn games.

Nightmare On Broad Street

When: Thursday, Oct. 29, 5:30–7:30 p.m.
Where: Windsor Town Green and Broad Street area, 275 Broad St., Windsor, CT

Down the road in Windsor, Nightmare on Broad Street will take over the Town Green and the surrounding area for an evening of free Halloween fun. Families can trick-or-treat along Broad Street and enjoy activities including a Halloween portrait station, outdoor movie, haunted house and haunted bus, and tractor-drawn hayrides. Broad Street will be closed to traffic for the event, and trick-or-treating begins at 5:30 p.m.

Ellington Farmers Market

When: Saturdays through Oct. 31, 9 a.m.–noon
Where: Market Park, 72 Maple St., Ellington, CT

Shop locally throughout October at the nearby Ellington Farmers Market, held Saturday mornings at Market Park. Along with local produce, foods and handmade goods, the market hosts weekly themes, live music and rotating guest vendors throughout the season. October closes with a Halloween Pet Parade on Saturday, Oct. 31; earlier weekends include Pumpkin & Squash Harvest Day on Oct. 17 and Many Cultures, One Community on Oct. 24.

Fall At Foster Family Farm

When: Daily through Nov. 1, 10 a.m.–6 p.m.; night mazes Fridays and Saturdays, 6:30–9:30 p.m.
Where: Foster Family Farm, 90 Foster St., South Windsor, CT

Spend a fall day close to home at Foster Family Farm, where visitors can explore two large corn mazes and a mini maze, take a hayride, visit farm animals and pick up pumpkins and other seasonal goods. General admission includes the mazes, sunflower field, courtyard activities and hayride. For a different experience after dark, the farm also hosts night mazes (ticketed separately) on Fridays and Saturdays throughout October.
