ENFIELD, CT — One of Enfield's most wanted, who skipped out on his sentencing following a sexual assault conviction in 2009, was captured in the Caribbean and is now in the custody of local authorities.

Enfield Police Chief Alaric Fox said Friday that, on Feb. 13, 52-year-old Gerald McCardy Jessop was arrested and charged with first-degree failure to appear.

Jessop was originally arrested on Sept. 22, 2009 and charged with first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor, Fox said.

Jessop was convicted of both sexual assault and risk of inury to a minor in 2011 and was out on bond awaiting sentencing, but failed to show up at his court date — Feb 23, 2011 — records show.

Fox said Enfield police had received information that Jessop had fled to the U.S. Virgin Islands and assumed a new identity. Enfield police and the Hartford State’s Attorney’s Office then teamed up with the State Department and Jessop was eventually located and taken into custody by Saint Vincent and Grenadines authorities.
