Over 200 Gather at Enfield "March For Our Lives" [PHOTOS]

ENFIELD, CT — Among the hundreds of March For Our Lives demonstrations held nationwide Saturday was a gathering of more than 200 people who walked from the town green down Route 5 to Enfield High School.

"It was fantastic," organizer Sue Braun said. "More people than we expected showed up, more people than we expected marched, people honked their horns in support of us."

Braun said she was hoping for attendance of about 150, but 239 people registered at the green.

Prior to the walk to the school, those assembled near the gazebo on the green listened to speeches from student leaders Abby Palmer and Melanie Mavin, as well as Sen. Richard Blumenthal and Rep. Joe Courtney. A number of Enfield elected officials were also on hand.

"The event was better than I could have even imagined," Tracy Weisel said. "I was so proud of the young people who shared their voices with such eloquence."

Jessica Duga added, "I'm so incredibly proud of our student speakers. They got their messages across beautifully, and I hope they feel empowered to always speak their minds and make their voices heard."

About 2 million people participated in marches across the nation, which organizers planned following the Feb. 14 massacre at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., which left 17 people dead.
