ENFIELD, CT — For today's look back at Enfield history, we visit the pages of the 1987 Fermi High School yearbook, and find an ad from one of the more popular take-out eateries of the time: DiMartino's Giant Grinders.

Frank DiMartino became well-known for making the largest sandwiches in town, ranging from three to eight feet long. His shop was located in the Riverview Plaza at 167 Elm Street, directly across the street from Kosciuszko Junior High School, later to become Asnuntuck Community College. Sadly, he passed away in 2006 at age 68.

We do not have an actual photo on file from the DiMartino's days. If anyone has one, please send it to tim.jensen@patch.com.

The site had previously housed the Chuck Wagon and Riverview restaurants. For many years, it was home to Matt's Sportscards and Comics, and is currently Smoke Plus Mart.

Here is a current view of the building, taken Thursday afternoon by yours truly.
